Nepali woman held at KIA over false information

A 36-year-old Nepali woman was arrested on Monday at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) after she arrived from Hong Kong.

Krishna Maya Thapa, was trying to board a flight to Hyderabad. During documents verification, immigration officials suspected her nationality following which they interrogated her. She was subsequently arrested for providing false information to procure Indian documents.

Thapa came to India in 2002 to work and settled in Hyderabad. In 2007 she married Shankar Bahadur Bashnat, a local resident. In 2013, she obtained a voter ID card, stating her birthplace as Hyderabad, and using that, she obtained an Indian passport, said Ravi Shankar, the immigration officer.

Later, Thapa went to Hong Kong to work and returned to Bengaluru on Monday. She was handed over to the BIAL police.
