Another art gallery has been added to the growing fleet of city art spaces. Called ‘Artisera’, it is located in Indiranagar.
Launched as an online-only art space by Lisa Jain and Varun Backliwal in 2015, Artisera opened its first-ever physical space earlier this month. The gallery’s aim is to make art more accessible, bringing in a mix of newer artists from the traditional and contemporary art worlds.
“While most art galleries in the country moved online during or post the pandemic, our journey has been the opposite. Over the years, we’ve managed to create a loyal client base online. Opening a physical gallery seemed like the next logical step. People in the city are increasingly developing an interest in arts. Plus, many of the senior artists still prefer physical galleries as it provides a more immersive experience,” says Lisa, as she gives a tour of the gallery.
The 4,000 sq ft property comprises a gallery, storage space and an office area.
The inaugural exhibition, titled ‘A Realm of Possibilities’, celebrates Artisera’s journey over the course of nine years. It features artworks by 34 artists from across the country. Some of the artists featured are Gurudas Shenoy, G Subramanian, Viveek Sharma, Ashok Bhowmick, Nikheel Aphale, and Rakhee Shenoy.
“Some of these artists like Gurudas Shenoy and Sangeeta Abhay have been with us since the inception of Artisera. We’re also excited to display works of new artists, some of them will exhibit their art in Bengaluru for the first time,” adds Lisa. The art works on display include painting, sculptures, and mixed media works. The exhibition will be on until January 4, 2025.
In the new year, the gallery will host a solo exhibition by Delhi-based artist Gurmeet Marwah, and a contemporary group exhibition by three Bengaluru-based female artists, among others.
Lisa also hopes to utilise the space for art and culture events such as panel discussions and talks. “We’d also like to organise curated walks for arts students. Earlier this week, we organised one for the students of Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat,” she adds.
Artisera, 1st Main Road, Indiranagar. Open Monday to Saturday, 10.30 am to 6.30 pm. Entry free.
