Bengaluru: Karnataka will soon draft a new bioenergy policy, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge said on Wednesday.
The policy is expected to promote the use of alternative fuels, especially in rural areas of the state.
Priyank said that the process to draft the new policy has already begun and that experts have studied the ground reality and the ongoing bioenergy programmes in Karnataka and neighbouring states.
"We have also analysed the central and state-level policies related to bioenergy. Our officials have already attended seminars, exhibitions and even investors' meetings to understand the opportunities in the sector and create a friendly atmosphere to attract investments to the state,” he said.
The government has also held talks with entrepreneurs involved in the production of biomass briquettes, pellets, green hydrogen and such other products, he added.
