Bengaluru: The Visvesvaraya Industrial & Technological Museum (VITM), Bengaluru, is marking its Diamond Jubilee with the launch of a new 'Fun Science' gallery — an interactive space designed to make science playful, accessible, and engaging for young minds.
"We want to make science fun and interesting for children; we do not want them to fear it,” said Cyril Babu, one of the museum’s curators.
The gallery features puzzles, games, and challenges that present scientific concepts through hands-on, gamified learning. Unlike traditional exhibits, Fun Science encourages curiosity and critical thinking through play.
To commemorate the milestone, a memorial lecture titled 'Sir MV: The Legendary Nation Builder' will be delivered by Shivaprasad Khene, Member of the NCSM Society and former VITM Director.
Drawing on rare archival material from the museum’s 2011 exhibition on Sir M Visvesvaraya’s 150th birth anniversary, the lecture will explore his contributions to water engineering, urban planning, and institution-building.
The official diamond jubilee event will be held on Sunday, when the new gallery will be inaugurated.
Prof Govindan Rangarajan, Director of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), will be the chief guest. Ingit Kumar Mukherjee, former DG of NCSM, and Dr B Venkatraman, Chairman of VITM’s Executive Committee, will also attend.
Established in 1965 as a tribute to Sir M Visvesvaraya, VITM has grown into one of India’s most-visited science museums. The celebrations aim not just to honour the past, but to inspire a new generation of innovators, dreamers, and problem solvers who will shape India’s scientific future.
