NIA court recalls 16 witnesses

A National Investigating Agency (NIA) special court has ordered the recall of 16 witnesses in 2008 Bengaluru serial blasts cases.

The Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) in the case had filed an application seeking recall of 16 witnesses, of them 10 had turned hostile during the ongoing trial.

The SPP had moved the application before the NIA court seeking to re-examine 16 witnesses.

The SPP filed the application under Section 311 of CrPC. He said while further examination was required in regard to 10 witnesses who had turned hostile and the remaining six on technical grounds.

The trial in the 2008 serial blasts cases is underway on a daily basis before the NIA special court. Trial is going on in nine separate cases pertaining to the serial blasts and as of now nearly 1,000 witnesses have been examined.

Around 1,200 witnesses are yet to be examined in all the nine cases. Meanwhile, a senior advocate said the four-month bail granted to one of the accused in the case Abdul Naseer Maudany will be completed on march 15.
