Not responsible for electrocution of 8-year-old girl, says Bescom

The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) has said it was not responsible for the electrocution of eight-year-old girl Anandi at Kalasipalya on Wednesday.

According to a press release by the Bescom, entire streetlights and their circuits are maintained by the BBMP and complaint regarding the streetlight not working at this particular pole was registered at the BBMP complaint center (complaint No 157004 on September 15) and it is yet to be attended to.

According to G Sheela, General manager, quality and safety, Bescom, the streetlight pole that caused the electrocution is a MS tubular type pole where the live wire at junction box was touching the streetlight pole.

Expressing its condolence over the death of the child, the Bescom has said that if citizens notice any streetlights with hazardous connections/non-functioning streetlights, they can contact BBMP complaint centre on 22660000.
