Swiss artiste Christina Harnisch enthralled one and all recently as she played beautiful compositions, especially the works of women composers, at the ‘Piano Recital’ held at Alliance Francaise.
Organised by The Bangalore School of Music, The Embassy of Switzerland in New Delhi and the Consulate General of Switzerland in the City, the recital saw an impressive crowd.
Everyone seemed ready for the artiste to take over the stage and blow their minds. Starting with Frederic Chopin’s piece Nocturne si b-moll op.9 Nr.1, the audience sat amazed at the artiste dressed in a red blouse and black skirt, as she mesmerised them with different notes.
The evening followed with other pieces like Maria Szymanowska’s Etiuda C-Dur Nocturne As Dur Felix; Mendelssohn’s Venetianisches Gondellied fis-moll Fanny and Maggio da L’Anno; Frederic Chopin’s Sonate b-moll op.35, Grave-doppio movimento, Scherzo, Marche Funebre and Presto.
The performance after the interval included several pieces of Cecile Chaminade’s like Pecheurs de nuit e-moll op127, Valse Caprice, Des-Dur op 33, Etude d’Automne Des-Dur op 109, Etude Romantique Ges-Dur, and Claude Debussy’s, Suite pour le piano, Prelude, Sarabande and Toccata.
“Women were used to being oppressed by their husbands, in earlier times. Thus, music was not something they could easily foray into. Most of these talented women, who did compose a few pieces, were not played often or could not come to the forefront,” comments Christina.
She adds, “Their music is as beautiful as any other’s, so they should be heard around the globe. This is why I chose to include pieces by women composers in today’s event.”
About the performance, pianist Julian Emerosa who was present at the event, says, “Each piece had its own character, which was clearly seen in the way Christina performed each one of them. The talent and dexterity in each piece was easily visible. The event’s highlight, being women composers, touched a special chord in my heart.”
