St Claret College recently hosted its cultural festival ‘Mayurika 2014’, which had not less than 23 colleges including St Joseph’s College of Arts and Science, MES, MS Ramaiah, Kristu Jayanti, Sindhi and Acharya College participate in full strength.
The fest featured on-stage events like adaptune, mime, Indian and western dances.
There were also many off-stage events such as creative writing, poetry writing, tattoo designing, face painting among others.
The ethnic dance by the international students and the fashion show stole the day. It was a big hit with the audience.
The management of the college has been extremely supportive of the students’ initiative of putting together the fest.
Fr Thomas Thennady, the principal, said, “Mayurika, the annual arts and cultural fest, has grown bigger with every year.
It has attracted more participation, tougher competition and greater enthusiasm from the student community.
It provides an excellent platform for students to showcase their talents and build good relationships with their peers from other institutions.”
The students of the host college enjoyed organising the events meticulously. Soumya, the cultural captain, said, “A lot of hard work has gone into pulling off a great show.
We’ve been preparing for weeks, sending invites, assigning roles and getting logistics in place. We are glad that we received tremendous response to the fest.”
Seema Gururaj of Jyoti Nivas College said, “It is only during fests like these that we actually get to interact with student coordinators from other colleges and make new contacts. These fests give us a lot of confidence to face the real world.”
Sharing her experience of participating in the group dance, Siksha from Kristu Jayanti College said, “We practised long and hard for the fest and were thrilled when we won. We also picked up a few new steps in the bargain.”
The overall championship was bagged by RBANMS College. The top slot in the fashion show was bagged by Acharya Institute.
