Bengaluru: In an effort to ensure supply of continuous drinking water to every household in Bengaluru, a first-of-its-kind online initiative in the country will bring Bureau of Indian Standards-certified water to the doorstep, Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) Chairman Ram Prasath Manohar V said in a statement released on Thursday.
This comes as part of the Sanchari Cauvery 'Cauvery on Wheels' programme.
"Water scarcity intensifies during summer, due to which private water tankers charge indiscriminately for drinking water. At the end of the day, this pressing issue hits the common people. To avoid this, we are introducing the Sanchari Cauvery scheme; and 110 villages will be prioritised in this programme,” he said at a press conference.
He said that the app and the website have already been designed and will be open to the public soon.
"Through Sanchari Cauvery, people can directly make bookings on the app or on the website; and the drinking water will be sourced from the Cauvery Connect Centres,” he said.
What will Sanchari Cauvery offer?
Tanker tracking with OTP-protected service
Convenience of booking water online
Availability of BIS-certified water
Promised delivery on time
Reasonably priced drinking water
No surcharge
Registration must
BWSSB Chairman Ram Prasath Manohar V noted that private tanker owners are expected to register on the Sanchari Cauvery app or website.
He said that the private tanker owners can rent out their vehicles to the BWSSB or get themselves registered directly on the website to do their businesses at reasonable prices.
The deadline for private water tanker registration is April 10.
