Bengaluru: Ride-hailing firm Namma Yatri on Friday launched a new feature in its application that will assist commuters through their journey.

The 'Namma Transit' feature offers a fully integrated journey, guiding users at every step in real time. It guides users to the nearest metro station, train timings and such basic details. It unifies metro, auto and cab journeys into one app experience, the company said.

"Namma Transit becomes your personal transit assistant. It shows which metro station to head to, which platform and gate to use, when to switch modes, and tracks both metro and auto in real time. Whether it’s a countdown for the next train, directions on station exits, or smart nudges to alight at the right stop, the entire journey is in the commuter’s control,” it added.

The feature was launched on the Centre's Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) protocol.

Namma Yatri co-founders Magizhan Selvan and Shan MS said that the new feature would help promote public transport.

"Mobility should feel like magic, not a daily grind. With Namma Transit, we've designed every element, from booking to alerts — to make public transport the first choice,” they said.

Bangalore South MP, LS Tejasvi Surya, said: "Namma Bengaluru wins when public transport beats private habits. Let's expand the metro, electrify every feeder and prove that Namma Bengaluru can outrun its traffic tales."

Namma Transit is now available for select users and will be gradually rolled out to all users over the next week.
