Bengaluru: The Bengaluru police have arrested a 29-year-old man from Odisha in connection with a robbery at the Geometry Brewery and Kitchen in north Bengaluru’s Subramanya Nagar on May 12.
The suspect, Malipuram Dilip Kumar alias Tutu, a resident of Odisha, had allegedly forced open the back door of the brewery, entered the owner's office on the third floor, and stole around Rs 50,000 from the counter after breaking it open. He also cut off the power supply to the CCTV cameras, the police said.
A security guard posted at the front gate told the police that he saw the suspect carrying a weapon, resembling a pistol. He added that after hearing a noise at the rear entrance, he went to check and spotted the suspect, who wore a mask, black jacket, and gloves.
By examining CCTV footage from the area, the police traced the suspect to Odisha and arrested him on May 17.
A well-placed police source told DH that the weapon, believed to be a pistol, turned out to be a cutting plier, which Kumar used to break the lock. The police have seized the plier and recovered Rs 6,000 in cash.
The police said the suspect came to Bengaluru in 2016 and worked at several restaurants and pubs in Jayanagar. In 2021, he was arrested for attempting a house break-in, was released, and later resumed work. In 2024, he quit his job, returned home, and came back to Bengaluru in November to work at a JP Nagar hotel.
Kumar allegedly attempted the Subramanya Nagar robbery after quitting this job as well.
