He walked out of the prison gates a free man at 9.30 pm on Monday. Within hours, he was bundled back in, after a botched robbery attempt.

A senior police officer said Sridhar (20), a habitual offender, was recently arrested by the Subramanyapura police for robbery and dacoity and was remanded in judicial custody.

After his release on bail from the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, he got on to the bike of his waiting associates outside the prison and headed for Chennammanakere Achkat, where he robbed a man of his gold chain when he came out to throw garbage.

The gang then went to Hanumanthanagar where they spotted a man on a motorcycle and began to chase him. After a brief chase, Sridhar’s bike and the victim’s bike collided with each other and they fell down. The police, who saw the accident, rushed to the spot and arrested the gang. Three other gang members escaped.

Sridhar, two of his associates, who are minors, and the victim, were shifted to a hospital with minor injuries.
