Here is one more blooper by Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). More than two years after cancelling the B khata for a property, the Palike is still collecting property tax.

The person holding the A khata for the very property is clueless as to how BBMP could demand and accept tax from the B khata holder when the same has been cancelled in 2015 itself.

Nandakumar Jadhav is the A khata holder of the property (new PID number 003-w223-10) for site number 116, at Muneshwara Layout, Attur village in Yelahanka New Town. Nandakumar has been fighting to reclaim his site which he bought in 2002. The very site was sold to another person in 2013 and the second buyer with a B khata constructed a house.

Not aware of the transactions, Nandakumar found that the house was constructed without a plan sanction.

“After a long drawn legal battle, the BBMP Revenue section finally cancelled the B khata in December 2015. I had to again fight for an order of demolition. Recently, I was told by the BBMP office that the demolition order too was passed. However, for two years the estimation for demolition could not be finalised,’’ Nandakumar Jadhav said.

Meanwhile, Nandakumar found that the BBMP’s revenue section has been collecting property tax from both the A khata and B khata holder. “I brought this to the notice of the officials concerned. Looks like I have to file another complaint to stop BBMP from collecting tax from the B khata holder, whose khata was cancelled by the BBMP itself. In the computer-generated tax receipts, I still find that tax is being collected from both A khata and B khata holders. Finally, I filed a complaint with the BBMP,’’ he said.

A BBMP official, who did not wish to be quoted, said that the error could have crept in while updating the data in the computerised list of the properties.
