More than 300 parents and their children staged a protest near HAL police station on Sunday urging the school authorities and government to take measures for safety of children at schools. The protest comes in the wake of increasing cases of molestation of children in city schools.

A large number of protesters were from Bellandur where a three-and-a-half-year old child was molested at a playschool recently. The management of the school and the staffers who perpetrated the crime should be immediately arrested under the Pocso Act as the abusers have been identified clearly, said Kumar Jahgirdar of Child Rights and Shared Parenting (CRISP), which had organised the protest.

The protesters submitted a petition to Additional Commissioner of Police (East),  Hemant Nimbalkar. CRISP members said that they would submit a petition to the Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi seeking separate police force for investigating crimes on children.
