Penalty for selling expired food

The Palike has imposed a penalty of Rs one lakh on Star Bazaar at Orion Mall and Rs 50,000 on Reliance showroom at Basaveshwara Nagar for keeping expired food items on sale.

The officers of the Health Department and the members of the Palike’s Standing Committee for Health carried out a surprise inspection following complaints by the citizens about food items past expiry date on sale.

They asked the owners of the showrooms to destroy old food items immediately, a press release from the BBMP health officer, west zone, said.
