A factory manufacturing plastic items was gutted in a fire mishap in Pantharapalya in Nayandahalli in the early hours of Sunday.

The factory did not have a name and the police are verifying to see if it is registered and has a licence. The fire personnel said that they received a call around 6 am about the mishap. As many as four fire tenders rushed to the spot and took more than four hours to douse the fire. An electric short circuit is suspected to the cause of the fire, they said.

The plastic material and chemicals on the premises aided the rapid spread of the fire, said the fire personnel. The premises belonged to Basavaraju and rented out to Kamal who was running the factory for over a year, said the police. The owner claims that goods worth Rs eight lakh were destroyed in the fire.

So far, no one has approached to register a case, added the police.
