A Kannada comedy play titled Vishwamitra Menake Dance Madodhu Enake – Ask Mr. YNK will be staged at Ranga Shankara, J P Nagar, on June 25.

The title is from a poem by famed columnist Y N Krishnamurthy (YNK) called ‘Vishwamitra Menake Dance Nododu Yake’. Written by Girish Rao Hatwar, and directed by N S Chitrashekhar, the play’s cast includes eight actors.

Influenced by YNK’s signature writing style, the play features an abundance of puns, says Chitrashekhar. It is about “the journey of a marriage and the role individual egos play in it”. It explores the concept of ‘Daampatya Nirmoolane’, where a separated couple is morally bound despite having no physical contact.

The play also depicts how a divorce is handled by different sections of society. Chitrashekhar says: “Nowadays people want attachment but no responsibilities. The story reminds us of the respect we should have for each other as individuals.”

June 25, 7.30 pm at Ranga Shankara, J P Nagar. Tickets online. For details, call 98453 82525.
