The Antaranga Bahiranga theatre troupe has turned to mythology with its upcoming production ‘Anugraha’. It is set to premiere on Saturday.
While the play depicts the life of Ekalavya from the ‘Mahabharata’, it seeks to look into the nuances of the teacher-student relationship between Dronacharya and Ekalavya through a perspective different from the one in the epic.
Written by Ramakrishnappa and directed by ‘Bosch’ Raghavendra, the play puts forth the argument that a teacher, after imparting knowledge, would never demand a disgraceful sacrifice from them. It analyses the decisions of Dronacharya and Ekalavya and the rationale behind their respective actions.
A fusion of music and dance is expected to be one of the highlights of the play.
Historically, several well-known authors have reinterpreted Ekalavya’s tale from different perspectives. Kuvempu’s ‘Beralge Koral’ and T P Kailasam’s English play ‘Purpose’ are a few examples.
On April 5, 4.30 pm and 7.30 pm, at Wadia auditorium, Indian Institute of World Culture, Basavanagudi. Tickets online.
