An English romantic comedy returns to the Bengaluru stage after 35 years.
Titled “Mary My Darling”, this two-hour play follows a soon-to-be divorced couple, Bob, a struggling publisher, and Mary, who are summoned by Oscar Nelson, the former’s lawyer, to settle their taxes. The tension escalates when they are joined by Bob’s young fiancée, Tiffany, and Dirk Winston, a Hollywood actor who is Bob’s friend. The play is produced by Bangalore Little Theatre (BLT).
The director, Bhaskar Gauribidanur, with nearly 40 years of theatre experience, is also essaying the lawyer's role. He says that it is a “rollicking, hilarious and light-hearted comedy that explores the highs and lows of human emotions”. It highlights “the fragility in human relationships”.
The play, written by Jean Kerr, was first presented by the group in 1990, with Bhaskar playing the same role. For other roles, they recruited a fresh cast, which includes Abhinav Narayanan, Shivam Grover, Vinayashree Jagadish, and Risa Malik.
