Police have cracked the recent murder of elderly woman Chandra Narasimhan, 76, who was strangled at her house in Jayanagar.

The Jayanagar police have arrested two men – the plumber of the house and his accomplice for the killing. The arrested, M Ramachandra, 38, is a resident of Weaver’s Colony on Bannerghatta Road and S Vasanth Kumar (alias Appi), 19, is a resident of Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu.

On April 22 afternoon, Chandra Narasimhan was strangulated to death while her two elder sisters Sharadamma, 80 and Dr Munilakshmamma, 88, were assaulted and strangled. The attackers had made away with jewels on the three elderly women and some ornaments from the house. Dr Munilakshmamma, showed a great presence of mind even though she was strangulated. She woke up after some time and found that her younger sister was dead. Soon she informed her daughter Dr Chitra Narasimhan.

According to a senior police officer, as soon as he entered their house, the elderly woman called him and wrote Ramachandra’s name and mobile phone number on a piece of paper. She then asked the officer to trace him.

Even before the investigation could begin, the police knew who the suspect was. The police summoned Ramachandra’s elder brother Janakiram and with his help tried to track down his sibling. Though a team was immediately dispatched to Ramnagar and even Tamil Nadu, there was little success. However, police were successful in apprehending the two near Kolifarm Gate, Bannerghatta Road, on Thursday evening, as Ramachandra returned home. Police also arrested his assistant Vasanth Kumar.

Interrogation revealed that Ramachandra had been working at the Narasimhans household for many years now and had observed that there was no man in the house. He thought that the three elderly women in the house were soft targets. He conspired with Vasanth Kumar and attacked the three women and made away with all gold ornaments and jewellery in the house. Police have recovered Rs eight lakh worth gold jewellery. The police have seized a motorcycle and a car the duo used to make good their escape.
