Bengaluru: Police have solved two separate house break-in and theft cases, recovering valuables worth Rs 1.23 crore.
In the first case, Begur police arrested two persons who had broken into a house in Vishwapriya Layout on June 18. The house owner, who was away at the time, discovered the theft of 330 grams of gold ornaments and 1.2 kg of silver items.
Police said the suspects had pledged the stolen valuables at three gold shops in KGF, Kolar. “A total of 614 grams of gold ornaments and 470 grams of silver articles valued at Rs 72,00,000 were recovered from the possession of the suspects,” police said in a statement.
In the second case, the JP Nagar police arrested a domestic worker who had stolen jewellery from the house where she had been employed for 10 years. Her absence from work for 20 days after the theft helped police identify her as the suspect.
She was arrested near her sister’s residence, close to a college in Puttenahalli. During interrogation, she revealed that she had pledged the stolen gold and silver ornaments at two jewellery shops in Jayanagar and one in Ramamurthy Nagar.
“Police recovered a total of 458 grams of gold ornaments and 3.868 kilograms of silver articles. The total value of the recovered property is estimated at Rs 51,40,000,” police said in a statement.
