“We are not registering a case. What is there in it? Nothing,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police, Vijayanagar Sub-division, K V K Reddy, under whose jurisdiction the alleged episode took place on the morning of July 4.
The family had filed a complaint with the Airport police, which was quick in transferring the case to Kamakshipalya police station, where the incident occurred. When the Kamakshipalya police were contacted, the first reaction was that they had not received any such complaint. Later, the ACP confirmed that the copy of the complaint had reached him but because there was no substance in the allegations, no case would be registered. This has caused resentment among the family members of Somaraju. “Let the police say whatever they want. If the case is not registered we will approach the Governor and the State Human Rights Commission. Also, we will send letter to the Karnataka High Court seeking their intervention in the case,” said Somaraju’s brother-in-law Venkatesh.
Meanwhile, Somaraju has been shifted to the special ward. When he saw his family members, he reportedly started crying. Considering his condition, doctor advised the family members not to disturb him and stay away from him. “He is still under observation,” Somaraju’s sister-in-law said.
Officials visit
Three days after the incident, Joint Commissioner V P Ikkeri, Chief Engineer B T Ramesh and other officials of the BBMP West Zone visited the hospital to enquire about the assistant engineer’s health condition. However, they were not allowed to meet the Palike official.
