Ravi (30), a native of Mangalore, Madappa (28) from Mysore, Veerabhadra (20) from Gundlupet, Chamarajpet district, Rajaram (29) of Udupi and Shiva (25), hailing from Nanjanagud, Mysore district, all working at a hotel on SC Road, had reportedly murdered Krishna alias Kanchi (25), a native of Nanjangud who used to trouble them for money, around 9:45 pm on Saturday.
The accused flung chilly powder into Krishna's eyes, beat him up with a wooden log and later smashed his head with a gas cylinder. The ninth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate remanded the accused to judicial custody.
Man creates ruckus
A man allegedly driving in an inebriated state, created ruckus when the traffic policemen booked him for drunken driving on Cubbon Road here on Saturday night.
Police said around 1 am, Robert was found driving his car in a drunken state near M Chinnaswamy Stadium. He gave some anxious moments to the traffic policemen when they tried to catch hold of him.
At first, he created a commotion and gave them a slip. A few moments later, he turned up but shouted at the personnel suspecting ‘foul play’. His car was seized and a case of drunken driving was booked against him. The police said that 120 ml of alcohol was found in Robert's blood.
Shivajinagar Traffic Police Inspector Mohammad Hussain, however, sought to play down the incident.
"Such incidents keep happening. This is nothing new. Drunken drivers do react in such a way, but we have to do our job," he told Deccan Herald.
Blackbuck pelts seized
CID forest cell arrested three persons and seized 26 Blackbuck pelts valued more than Rs 15 lakh on Monday.
The arrested are Hanumanthappa (45), Veeranna (30) and Thimappa (55). Ramapura police said, the three accused, were basically farmers but were in the habit of hunting the animals for making extra money.
They hail from Monakalmoru taluk in Chitradurga district. A four-wheeler and illegal weapons used in hunting were also seized, they added.
The cops are searching for the buyers who were instigating the farmers to kill the animals. They have been booked under Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
The suspects have confessed to have killed the animals and after relishing the meat, they were selling the skin, police added.
Two arrested for theft
Police have arrested a man and recovered 112 gms gold jewellery worth Rs 1.5 lakh were recovered from him in Vijayanagar, the police said. Mohammad Hashim alias Asif (30) of Hosaguddadahalli is the accused.
In the other incident, acting on a clue, police nabbed a 33-year-old man on Friday and recovered stolen gold jewellery worth Rs two lakh from him in Kalasipalya.
Armugam alias China of J P Nagar post was allegedly involved in two night thefts reported in Kalasipalya and Siddapura police station limits.
City man dies in Muthathi
A City man who went to swim in Cauvery river at Muthathi died here on Sunday evening.
Police said Jagadheesh (33), a resident of Anjaneyappa Layout and an employee of Malathi Manipal Hospital in Jayanagar was the dead. The body was found on Monday afternoon.
Jagadheesh, along with Dileep Chauhan, Nagesh, Kantharaju, Mallesh and Vijay Kumar all whom worked in the same hospital, had arrived at Muthathi in four two-wheelers on Sunday.
They went to bathe in the river when Jagadheesh accidentally drowned. A case has been registered by Halaguru police station Sub-Inspector Gopal.
Family perishes in fire
A family, including a 2-year old child died in a fire accident, caused by a lamp, at Marikuppe Dakhle, Hosalli colony, Magadi, on Monday. The dead are identified as Gangamma, Govindaraju and their child. They were rushed to Victoria Hospital but the family succumbed to the injuries, police said.
