A team from the Marathahalli police station was dispatched to Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday to investigate the alleged death by suicide of a 34-year-old techie in Bengaluru on Monday.
“Marathahalli station police inspector is leading the team of personnel,” Shivakumar Gunare, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield), said. “Investigation has been launched. The deceased’s brother has given a complaint.”
Atul Subhash, originally from Uttar Pradesh, was found dead at his house in Munnekolal on Monday. Subhash, who worked as a senior executive at a prominent tech firm in the city, also left behind a 40-page note and a video explaining his decision and detailing the allegations. The note had a set of instructions, including a "gift" for his four-year-old son.
Describing the suspected reason behind the death, the DCP said: “As per the complaint, there were multiple cases against the deceased in Uttar Pradesh. His wife, who, along with some of her family members demanded money to settle the issue and due to their harassment, the victim died by suicide, as per the complaint we have received.”
The FIR registered for abetment of suicide named Subhash’s wife Nikita Singhania, mother-in-law Nisha Singhania, brother-in-law Anuragh Singhania and relative Sushil Singhania. As per the FIR, the suspects had sought Rs 3 crore to settle the cases and in many instances coaxed him to die by suicide.
In-laws refuse to comment
The in-laws of Subhash refused to speak to the media persons and made a beeline before their residence in Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur town on Wednesday.
According to the reports, Subhash's mother-in-law, who lived in Khoa Mandi locality in Jaunpur, and his brother-in-law said that they would put forward their point of view only in the presence of their lawyer.
''We will not talk unless our lawyer is present....we will call you (media) when we have anything to say,'' ‘the brother-in-law was quoted as having told the reporters in a media report.
Some reports said that the in-laws asked the media persons not to click photos and turn off their cameras even as the media persons kept on requesting them to respond to their queries.
Some reports said that the techie's mother-in-law levelled counter-allegations against Atul and claimed that the latter used to 'torture' her daughter.
