Bengaluru: The Karnataka CID arrested the prime suspect in the murder of rowdy-sheeter Shivakumar alias Biklu Shiva at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.
Jagadish alias Jagga was detained by immigration officials on arrival from Sri Lanka and handed over to CID officers. He was brought to Bengaluru and will be produced before a magistrate, where the CID is likely to seek custody.
BJP MLA Byrathi Basavaraj is also a suspect in the case and has been questioned twice by investigators.
Shivakumar (40) was brutally attacked and killed near his residence on Meanee Avenue Road, Bharathinagar, on the night of July 15.
Eleven suspects were arrested by the Bengaluru police, including five who surrendered claiming responsibility, before the case was transferred to the CID. A look-out circular was subsequently issued against Jagadish.
Sources said moments after the murder, Jagadish fled to Chennai and flew to Dubai. He later travelled through Indonesia, Thailand and Sri Lanka before returning to India.
The CID will probe his key role in the murder and who funded his foreign travel, sources said.
