Members of Karnataka Producers’ Association will stage protest at the premises of Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce at 12 noon. The Association has sought support of the Directors’ Association as well.
The Association is demanding that the Chamber should formulate a policy on screening non-Kannada movies in the State and ensure that everyone in the industry adheres to those guidelines. It is staging a protest in the wake of screening of the Telugu movie Magadheera in the State, violating the norms. As per the Chamber’s guidelines non-Kannada movies can be released only in 21 centres, including 17 in Bangalore.
The Association has alleged that Vijay Kumar, distributor of Magadheera had released the movie in 26 centres against the norm. The Association also took serious objection to this as Vijay Kumar violated the norm despite being the Secretary of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce. Producers’ Association President K C N Chandrashekhar said that the Kannada movies released in the last two weeks suffered due to lack of theatres, while the Telugu movie was released across the State.
He said in the first phase the protest would be restricted to one-day dharna. If the demands are not met, then it would plan strong protests in cooperation with associations of actors, workers and also fans of Kannada films, he added.
