Proposal for extension of fisheries port

In a press release, Palemar who is also Minister for Ports said the existing fisheries port in the City requires extension of the jetty and other infrastructure facilities keeping in mind the rise in the number of boats anchoring at the port.

At present, the jetty at the port is 603 metre long and about 1,500 boats are anchored in the port.

However, this jetty is not enough sufficient to accommodate all these boats. The jetty needs to be extended by another 502 metres southwards. Besides, an additional jetty of 579 metres long needs to be built at Bengre. The work will commence after the Central government gives its nod for the project.

The proposed project also includes the works related to dredging, levelling works, construction of rivetment, traffic zone, fish selling premises restroom for fishermen, ship repair workshop, gear shed, net mending shed, radio communication tower, restaurant, house for security guard, public toilet, RCC box bridge and rainwater harvesting system, he stated.
