A silent protest was held in front of Town Hall on Wednesday by Not In My Name activists against incidents of lynching of Muslims and Dalits across the country.
Not in My Name is a Facebook campaign launched with a Facebook post by Delhi-based film maker Saba Dewan.
Intellectuals, writers, artistes, seculars and liberals are taking part in the campaign.
Like in Bengaluru, demonstrations were held in Delhi, Thiruvananthapuram, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Allahabad, Chandigarh and several other cities across the country on Wednesday.
The protesters said they were protesting the senseless violence that is being perpetrated across the country.
They questioned the pattern of the attacks on the minorities in various states and the silence of the government over the killings and the cases of lynching of Muslims and Dalits.
They said India is home to various religions, faiths, sects and members of all regions should live in harmony.
“As citizens let's get together and assert that the killings and the hatred being unleashed - Is Not In Our Name. If not now then when? Right to Life and Equality is a fundamental right enshrined in the Constitution of India. It is time we the citizens of India reclaim and protect our Constitution,” one of the slogans read.
