The dawn-to-dusk bandh, actively supported by transport unions and other major transport organisations, is likely to disrupt public transport across the city. Severely affected by the price hike, all major transport associations have decided to take the plunge and take part in the strike.
Following the support by the KSRTC and BMTC workers federation, buses are likely to remain off the roads. However, KSRTC has written to all depot managers to ensure that no services are affected and has directed them to take all measures to help the public. The circular has also advised against sanctioning leave on Monday barring emergency situations.
Depot managers have also been told to adopt ‘No Work, No Pay’ rule against those who choose to be absent on that day.
All taxi services including Ola, Uber, TaxiForSure and others will be stopped on Monday between 6 am and 6 pm. Tanveer Pasha, president of Uber, TaxiForSure and Ola (UTO) drivers’ and owners’ association said in a press note that their association extends complete support to the bandh. “We had already decided to conduct a strike at the Town Hall three days ago but since the opposition parties have come together on the same cause, we are supporting it,” the press statement said.
Several autorickshaw unions and airport taxi owners’ associations have also publicly supported the bandh against the fuel price hike.
