The gridlock around the City railway station inconvenienced hundreds of outbound passengers as anganwadi workers staged a sit-in at the concourse on Thursday, blocking the passengers to the terminal.
The protesters sat on the main road, blocking the approach road to the railway station and the reservation office, making it difficult for passengers and visitors to reach the station.
Bengaluru Divisional Railway Manager Anil Kumar Aggarwal was had to stay put in his office throughout the protest. Railway officials said the protesters used loudspeakers to address the gathering for over three hours near the railway station, causing a lot of hardship to outgoing passengers. According to them, some passengers were likely to have missed trains because of the protest but it was not known how many. They said such rallies were increasingly inconveniencing passengers and visitors to the railway station and the government had not done anything to maintain law and order.
Ambulance not spared
An ambulance carrying a patient was stuck in the traffic jam for more than an hour near Anand Rao Circle. The ambulance was coming from Malleswaram.
Although it kept sounding the siren, the protesters didn’t give it way. Policemen later halted the procession for a while and ensured way for the ambulance.
