In an effort to give rural audiences a taste of popular dramas, Ranga Shankara will stage plays in various districts from January 21 to 24, under the title ‘Loka Sanchara.’

Apart from plays, workshops will be organised for theatre artistes across Davanagere, Sheshagiri of Haveri district, Tumakuru and Sanehalli. Workshops will also be held for primary and high school teachers on how dramatics can be employed to coach students, theatre personality Arundhati Nag told reporters here on Monday.

“Shankar Nag always dreamed of taking plays to rural audiences. To fulfil his dream, Ranga Shankara has decided to stage dramas in rural areas. Of the total four dramas, three are in Kannada and one is in English,” she added.

Theatre personality from Delhi Rakesh Arora and other artistes from across the country will conduct the workshop for teachers. Ranga Shankara is planning to organise such events in various districts throughout the year. Those interested have to pay a nominal fee of Rs 20 to watch the plays.

Playwright Girish Karnad blamed the government for its continued apathy towards Ranga Shankara. He said that the government has done nothing for theatre, except alloting land for buildings.
