An unusual concert is slated for Saturday, December 14, with two vocalists accompanying a percussion stalwart.
A V Anand, 92, began his mridangam career young, and has accompanied several greats on the stage. Among the instrumentalists he played with was the legendary T Chowdaiah, with whom he shared the stage as a nine-year-old.
Pandit Nagarajarao Havaldar, Hindustani vocalist, and Vidwan Thirumale Srinivas, Karnatik vocalist, are flanking Anand and singing to his intricate rhythms at a concert organised by Samanvaya Kala Kendra.
Other well-known artistes on the stage are M S Govindaswamy (violin), Panchakshari Hiremath (harmonium) and Kedarnath Havaldar (tabla).
“This is a first-of-its-kind concert, as it is the percussionist who is usually said to accompany the vocalist. We are trying a new approach,” Havaldar told Metrolife.
