The National Tiger Conservation Authority has announced Rs 860 as ration allowance to the frontline staff serving in Tiger reserves across the country.

According to the gazette notification dated July 15, 2014 signed by NTCA member-secretary Rajesh Gopal and issued by Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, the allowance is payable to forester and forest guards on regular payroll at field level (namely watchers, van mazdoors, malis, chowkidars etc).

The ration allowance was recommended first by Tiger Task Force (TTF) headed by Sunita Narain in the year 2005.

The ration allowance is in addition to the tiger project allowance being paid to the frontline staff. Karnataka has five tiger reserves - Bandipur, Nagarhole, BRT, Bhadra and Anshi- Dandeli.
