Bengaluru: The Rajanukunte police in Bengaluru Rural arrested two Nigerian nationals on July 6 and seized narcotics worth Rs 4.5 crore after tracking illegal drug sales targeting college students, software engineers, and the public.
The operation began when officers noticed two foreigners moving suspiciously on a two-wheeler carrying a bag.
Investigations revealed that they had entered India last December via Delhi on medical grounds and overstayed their visas, the police said.
Around 5.15 pm on July 6, acting on this specific information, the police raided a rented house in Addiganahalli village, Yelahanka, where the suspects were staying. They recovered 2.82 kg of MDMA, about 400 grams of hydro ganja, seven mobile phones, two weighing machines, and Rs 2,06,870 in cash. The suspects had concealed the crystal drugs inside the cardboard packaging of new ladies’ readymade garments.
'Wider racket'
Superintendent of Police C K Baba, Bengaluru Rural, suggested a wider racket and said that this was one of the biggest drug hauls in the Bengaluru Rural district.
"There appears to be a deep network involved. Further investigations will be conducted to ascertain their source, operational methods, and supply locations," he said.
He added that the suspects would sometimes wear security uniforms, including airport security attire, to avoid suspicion during their operations.
The arrested men have been identified as 35-year-old Alasonye Peter Obioma and 28-year-old Sunday Windom, also known as John Victor Ambomo.
A case has been registered under sections 8(C), 22(C), and 20(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and Section 14 of the Foreigners Act. The police have seized the mobile phones and drugs.
