Recounting the sacrifice of the more than 6.5 lakh Congressmen who laid down their life to secure Independence for India, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Friday exhorted the cadre of his party to write the foreword to the ‘second freedom struggle’ in 2029.
Shivakumar, participating in the 79th Independence Day celebrations at the KPCC office in Bengaluru, urged the party cadre to make both the current and future generations aware of the sacrifices of the Congress party.
“Otherwise, traitors will keep preaching us about patriotism. It’s the Congress that fought for Independence but they are trying to defame our leaders,” the KPCC chief said.
“We need to take a five-point oath today -- saving democracy, the Constitution, the sanctity of elections, fighting the injustice of tax devolution and to eliminate fascism. We need to remember these five oaths every day and write the foreword to the second independence struggle in 2029,” he added.
‘Vote theft’ is detrimental to the interests of a democracy since it puts the whole electoral process in jeopardy, said the KPCC. “Our leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge launched a nationwide campaign to fight against vote theft from Karnataka,” said Shivakumar. Interacting with journalists later, he expressed delight at parties opposed to the BJP coming together. The Deputy CM even hinted at a ‘massive change’ in the days to come.
