The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner has urged the local elected representatives to remove the advertisements with their photographs from the public places in the city.
Issuing a circular in this regard, BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad said there is no exception for the elected representatives to put up their photographs at bus shelters or water kiosks, which is usually provided by the local councillor.
However, there is an exception for photographs of the president, prime minister, chief minister, governor, state and union ministers and national leaders.
"If any photographs of local elected representatives are seen in the public places in the city, the BBMP will remove them and take action against it," stated the circular.
The High Court of Karnataka recently banned public advertising through flex and banners in the city, and the BBMP has also drafted the new Outdoor Signage and Public Messaging by-laws.
It has received close to 1,100 objections from citizens and this is one of the amendments that the BBMP has included in the draft by-laws. The government is yet to notify the draft.
