Several residents of Ranka Colony Road at Bilekahalli, on Bannerghatta Road, took up a cleanliness drive in the area on Sunday to take forward the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Despite the downpour, the residents cleaned the road and cleared the garbage, debris and other construction material that were strewn around. To support this initiative, all the apartment complexes on the Ranka Colony Road have pooled in money.
Speaking about the initiative, Nisha Jain, a resident of Surabhi Apartment, said that the (PM’s) mission must not fade away in the coming days and the locals must develop a habit of keeping their surroundings clean.
B L Prakash, resident of Ranka Colony Apartment, said, “It has to be noted that the government’s participation alone is not enough. The mission can be fulfilled only when all of us unite, support and work towards the common goal.”
Meanwhile, for the past six years, around 2,500 families of this colony have been left in the lurch as the main road work is still incomplete. The construction work has also been stopped for a year, the residents said.
The absence of streetlights has made it worse for pedestrians, especially during the nights, and the situation worsens during rainy days as there is no proper footpath, added the residents.
When the local MLA M Sathish Reddy and Bilekahalli Corporator Roopa Ramesh met the residents, they complained of the absence of a proper road, speed breakers and other civic amenities. The MLA and the corporator assured the residents that they would take necessary action.
