Revoke SC order on liquor shops: wine merchants

At least 10,000 members of the Federation of Wine Merchants’ Association held a rally in the city urging that the state government’s intervention in revoking the Supreme Court order.

They demanded that the state government appeal to President Pranab Mukherjee to cancel the orders issued by the apex court asking all liquor shops falling within 500 metres of all national and state highways to shut or relocate.

The rally began from Krantivira Sangolli Rayyana Railway Station and culminated at Freedom Park. They submitted a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

T V Maharavade, the Association’s treasurer, said that due to the orders issued by the apex court, at least 6,000 of the total 10,097 liquor shops located along the national and the state highways in the state will be shut down.
