The first ‘web streaming’ of examinations, a plan to zero in the malpractice rate during medical courses examinations by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), was done on Wednesday during the first day of postgraduate medical examinations.
The web streaming was done at all 26 examination centres across the state on a pilot basis, where the university installed CCTV cameras and was monitored at a centralised cell in Bengaluru.
RGUHS vice-chancellor Dr Sachidanand said: “Despite necessary measures, cases of malpractice were reported from some of the centres. To check this, we have brought in the web streaming.”
“As this was done on the pilot basis, the university had installed the cameras. However, when this is implemented in a full-fledged manner the colleges, which are the examinations centres, must install the cameras,” the vice-chancellor added.
Meanwhile, the footage will be preserved for six months. The university also plans to introduce it at the undergraduate level. According to the data available from the university, at least five to six cases of malpractice were being reported from various centres.
For a professional course like medical, even this rate is high, and the aim was to bring it to zero, university officials said.
