Ziaulla Sheriff, Managing Partner of Sheriff Constructions, alleged in the complaint that Baig and his wife “colluded” with B G Vaijayanthimala to sell the latter a pent house flat Sheriff owned on Haines Road near Coles Park. This, he said, was done through a “fabricated” GPA granted by Sheriff and Sharfunissa, owner of the land.
Pai, Sheriff says, also allegedly signed on the GPA.

The sale deed was reportedly executed more than 10 years after Sharfunnisa passed away. According to the complainant, in 1998, Baig who was then Minister of State for Home, forced him to sell the said flat for Rs 50 lakh.

Baig paid Rs five lakh as advance and promised to pay the rest while executing the sale deed. But, the complainant alleged, Baig did not keep his promise. Instead, he took possession of the flat without the complainant’s consent.

Sheriff had almost forgotten about the flat but for a letter he received from Imran Associates, advocates, on behalf of Abdul Haq Surathi on October 1, 2011, seeking information about the title of the said flat. Sheriff was told that the flat belonged to Vaijayanthimala who bought it on October 8, 2009, through a sale deed executed by Sabiha Roshan on the basis of a GPA dated February 28, 1998.

Sheriff claims that neither he nor Sharfunnisa executed any GPA and the signatures on the GPA were “clearly forged”. Interestingly, the said document does not have the signature of Sharfunnisa who always “signed in Urdu”.

A case has been registered under Sections 420, 465, 468, 471, 384, and 506 read with 34 of the IPC.

Bharathinagar police inspector B Pramodh Kumar said that they would seek expert opinion on whether the GPA and sale deed were fabricated.
As of now, police are yet to get the original documents.
