Carrying forward the Swachh Bharat Mission, the Rotary Club of Bengaluru, Indiranagar branch and volunteers of the Bangalore Political Action Committee (B.PAC) had organised a cleanliness and awareness drive at HAL 2nd Stage in Indiranagar on Sunday morning.

The drive was simultaneously conducted in 21 locations across the City by the members of the two organisations. In Indiranagar, the volunteers and Pourkarmikas cleared out garbage from a park.

The members also painted the pavements and installed CCTV cameras to curb drug and alcohol abuse. The members decided to develop the park as a pet-friendly green space. Vijay R Mane of the Rotary Club, told Deccan Herald that drug abusers frequented the park and half of it was occupried by hawkers.

“We have streamlined the hawkers to one portion so that the remaining portion can be utilised. We have also decided to use this site as a dog-friendly park and the authorities have assured us that the project will be taken up soon. A dry leaf compost centre will also be set up,” he added. HAL
Corporator Gita Reddy felicitated 40 Pourakarmikas.

Over 50 volunteers from the Rotary Club of Bengaluru, Indiranagar and B.PAC participated in the event. Shanthinagar MLA N A Haris, B.PAC COO Revathy Ashok, Vice President Mohandas Pai and Rotary District Governor Manjunath Shetty took part.
