Commuters using aggregator platforms have faced trouble with Google Maps over the past week, with incorrect routes increasing trip distances by 1-2 km.

Anish J, 28, a corporate employee, booked an auto on Rapido from Whitefield to Domlur on Sunday. The 10-km trip cost him Rs 32 more than the app’s estimate.

"I was supposed to pay Rs 280, including a tip. But the map kept re-routing, confusing the driver, and adding distance. We drove at least 1.5 km extra," he said.

Sahana Keshava paid Rs 40 more for her cab ride from Jalahalli to Rajajinagar as the map added about 2 km to her journey.

On July 17, another commuter faced issues while travelling from Indiranagar to Cubbon Park on Uber.

"Though I told the driver he was taking the wrong route, he insisted on following the map. We went in circles for 10 minutes before he followed my directions," the 26-year-old said.

Auto and cab drivers told DH that this has been a frequent issue.

"On Friday, I accepted a ride from Sanjay Nagar to Hebbal. The map kept glitching and re-routing. I drove 1 km in vain before the passenger cancelled the ride," said Shankarappa, 53, an auto driver.

Nagesh V, a cab driver, had a similar experience driving from Lingarajapuram to Cox Town.

"This is the second time in a week on different platforms. I have raised complaints, but received no help," he said.

Rapido refused to comment.
