Bengaluru: A 28-year-old rowdy-sheeter, Salman Khan, was hacked to death on Tuesday by his wife’s relatives after he allegedly threatened to kill their 20-day-old baby during a domestic dispute, the police said.
Khan, a resident of Siddapura in south Bengaluru, was a known rowdy-sheeter with six criminal cases against him, including a murder case in 2016 and an attempted murder case in 2021.
The police said the altercation occurred around 5 am on Tuesday. Khan got into a heated argument with his wife’s relatives, which turned violent. The suspects allegedly attacked him with a wooden plank and rod. One of them, a fish seller, stabbed Khan with a knife.
Khan was rushed to Nimhans for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries hours later. The police have arrested three suspects — Ansar, 40, Umar, 25, and Shoaib, 25 — in connection with the murder.
A police officer revealed that Khan frequently had disputes at home.
On Monday night, he reportedly fought with a neighbour and set their vehicle on fire after the altercation. During the fight, Khan’s wife sided with the neighbour, enraging him further.
“Khan was furious and, in retaliation, threatened to harm their 20-day-old baby,” the officer said. He allegedly took the baby away from his wife, prompting her to call her relatives for help.
When the relatives arrived, they tried to pacify him, but Khan escalated the situation into a physical confrontation, which ultimately led to his death.
The case is under investigation as the police piece together details about the incident.
