Bengaluru: The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has expanded the Sanchari Cauvery initiative to allow apartment complexes to order water tankers in bulk.
The move aims to ease the city’s growing dependence on groundwater and promote sustainable water management, the BWSSB said in a statement.
BWSSB Chairman Ramprasat Manohar V said that many apartment complexes on the city’s outskirts depend heavily on private water tankers, and this initiative would help address that.
"These residents rely on private water tankers, many of which draw water from borewells, further stressing the city’s depleting groundwater levels. To counter this and ensure access to safe, clean, and BIS-certified drinking water, the BWSSB will now allow apartments to book water tankers in bulk under the Sanchari Cauvery scheme,” he said.
The apartment complexes can also opt for an annual programme or pay a month’s advance while booking.
As part of the Sanchari Cauvery initiative, the BWSSB offers Cauvery water to citizens through tankers.
