Somehow, the finale of BFW didn’t have the usual thrill any finale would have. The only designers one could look forward to were the Neerus and Neeta Lulla – the rest were all new faces in the fashion industry or kids just out of college. And this year’s fashion show didn’t seem have a dearth of either the designers or the showstoppers. Every designer made sure they brought one or two showstoppers to scorch the ramp.

The last day had a collection from Shivani and Joy, both young designers, who did well in stretching their imagination. Their collection revolved around urban garbage. Recycling and reuse of garbage was what they had in mind when they designed their line. |

"Something funky and out of the world. The clothes have a lot of zippers and are designed to be water resistant. It is meant to highlight how garbage is strewn and the insensitivity of people living in big metros,” said Joy. They used a  lot of polytafe fabric in addition to silk jersey fabric. “We have concentrated on zipper detailing as well,” added Joy.

Kolkata-based designers Trisha Das and Moumita Ray are students of International Institute of Fashion. They chose to cash in on the elements in the sea. “We have played around with colours such as blue, green, and grey. They’re calm colours and bring about a dramatic effect just like what happens in a sea. It’s clam at times and at some other times it is stormy,” said Trisha. The line had a mix of Indo-western wear, in addition to kurtis.

The Neerus, as showy as always, had a huge line of Anarkalis in bright red, orange lined with embroidery at the borders. It was heavy, all meant for bridal and party wear. Their collection of salwars and lehengas were particularly impressive. “We have concentrated on the bridal collection. We have used a lot of detailing work at the borders and concentrated on leaving the body of the sari undisturbed,” said Neeru who had the brand Ambassador Yana Gupta walk the ramp.

Neeta Lulla who was the official designer for movies like Jodha Akbar stuck to a summer collection. She chose to make short dresses, flares and free flowing garments with whites and off whites. Pam and Arch, both London-based designers, showcased their Spring Summer collection which was based on the reflection of light.

“The collection is meant to be bold and dramatic. Ours is a ready-to-wear collection which is used as day wear and maybe an evening out. There’s a lot of practicality attached to the collection,” said Pam. The clothes had lots of detailing and embroidery on the borders and comprised Indo-western and Western wear.

The showstoppers were Shruti Hassan, Neetu Chandra, Yana Gupta, Natasha Suri and VJ Piya Trivedi. The people who came for the show made sure they helped themselves to plenty of food, all sorts of beverages and short eats. The organisers too seemed generous with the passes as they were seen giving out passes even at 11 at night.

“I had a lot of trouble getting passes for Neeta Lulla’s show and now that I have got them for the show and the after party I am going to make the best of it,” said
Rahaman Neseeb.
