An assistant sub-inspector of police was manhandled by a scrap dealer in Chamarajpet area on Saturday afternoon.

Aslamullah Sharief, 32, a resident of Tippu Nagar, attacked Krishnappa, 57, attached to the Chamarajpet traffic police station, and tore his uniform, after his two-wheeler parked in a no-parking lot on Bazaar Street, 4th Main, was towed onto a Tiger van.

Krishnappa, who was treated at Victoria Hospital, told Deccan Herald: “At around 12.10 pm, I was passing through the main road in a Tiger van. I spotted five two-wheelers in a ‘no parking’ area. I directed the boys to lift the vehicles and when we were about to move, Aslam arrived and forcibly opened the van’s door. I was seated in the front, next to the driver. Using abusive language, he pulled me out. I slipped and fell down. With bruises on my face, shoulder and waist, I was helpless. Thanks to the alert public, they rushed to my help and caught Aslam. They bundled him into an autorickshaw and took him to the police station.”

Aslam was arrested and produced before a magistrate.
