The High Court has passed an order that, no organisation or individual or groups should conduct protest, rallies, etc, against the unveiling of the statue.
The local police have been instructed to take effective action as per law, without fear or favour and promptly in case any organisation or groups or individuals try to violate the orders of the High Court.
The police will sternly deal with any person or group of persons indulging in violence or violation of any law of the land. The citizens should extend cooperation to the police to maintain public order, tranquillity and prevent untoward incidents, City Police Commissioner, Shankar Bidari said in a press release.
Buses to ply
K Vishwanath, Chief Traffic Manager (Operations), BMTC said, "We have not taken any decision on whether to ply buses or not. We will go by whatever advice the police give us on the law and order situation on the day of bundh. Public travel should not be put to inconvenience."
KRV chief and others held
To avoid any untoward incident during the unveiling of Tiruvalluvar statue, the City Police, late on Friday night, took KRV President T A Narayana Gowda along with 100 other activists into preventive custody.
Following the arrest, the activists have decided to stage a state-wide protest from Tuesday.
The police apparently didn’t want to take any chances at the statue unveiling function on Sunday.
Gowda told Deccan Herald that thousands of activists would converge on the City on August 9, stall the proposed unveiling of the Tiruvalluvar statue and make the bundh a huge success, he said, while urging the activists to remain calm and not to resort to violent means.
