Bengaluru: A 68-year-old man is killed after a group of dogs allegedly attacked him on Monday early morning.
Seetappa, a resident of Kempegowda Nagar in Kodigehalli was found lying injured in a pool of blood on Monday early morning at around 3 am and local residents alleged that he was attacked by a group of at least eight dogs.
“One of the residents close to the place where he was attacked informed us that she was woken up by the screams of Seetappa and the dogs. She told us that she tried to shoo away the dogs by pouring water on them,” one of the family members of the victim said.
However, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials said that the area was not covered by CCTV and hence they are awaiting the postmortem report to conclude if it was a case of stray dog attack.
“We have captured 16 dogs from the area and they have been kept under observation. We are awaiting the autopsy report,” said Suralkar Vikas Kishore, BBMP Special Commissioner.
One of the family members of Seetappa said that he was unable to sleep during the night and had ventured out early in the morning.
BBMP, in a statement, issued on Tuesday, said that the incident was reported on the 112 helpline and soon the police arrived and shifted the victim to the Yelahanka Government Hospital where he was declared dead. Seetappa’s family is said to have informed BBMP that he was mentally disturbed.
Stray dog menace is a common problem in the area, said yet another resident who claimed that one of her family members was also attacked by a group of dogs a few months back.
Seetappa reared a few cows and was supplying milk to houses. “Now, I am scared to come out in the morning before 6 am since the dogs are aggressive here,” Jyothi, a resident of the area said.
