The arrest has helped close 11 cases, including 10 chain snatchings and a daylight robbery across the city.

The case surfaced after a woman filed a complaint at the Girinagar police station on June 16. She reported that around 8.20 pm, a biker asked for an address, snatched her 50 gram gold chain and fled, leaving her with a head injury.

Following an investigation, the police arrested Gani on June 23 in Hosakerehalli D’Souza Nagar, along with the bike used in the crime. He later confessed to the offence.

Between June 26 and July 4, the police recovered the stolen gold from jewellery shops in Hyderabad, Telangana, and Palakkad in Kerala. Gani was produced before the court on July 7 and remanded in judicial custody.
