Short film fest back in Delhi

Film enthusiasts have a reason to cheer. After its successful launch in June, Filmbooth- a community of short film makers, is back with ‘First Cut: Short Film Premiers’ to showcase some of the finest short films from the country. The screenings will be held on July 14, 6:45 pm onwards at the Gulmohar hall, India Habitat Centre.

Entry is free.

Gaurav Raturi, co-founder of Filmbooth says, “It is high time that the city got its own mini-Indie festival, that is, a festival of short films by Indian directors. Looking at the pace of life and quality of cinema today, short films are the best education and entertainment solutions. In a span of two hours you can watch eight quality short films rather than sleep on a three-hour boring flick. We want to open that avenue to Delhiites.”

“Also, filmmakers need not have only ideas, actors and equipment to make a film, but also an interested and keen audience for their films, especially when the film is in its work-in-progress stage or has just been finished but not done the rounds. ‘First Cut’ will provide that platform.”

This month, ‘First Cut’ has an eclectic mix of nine Indie films. A Reasonable Compromise- by Sanjib Dey was recently showcased at short Court Me’trage, Short Film Corner at Cannes. The story depicts the psychological state of a young breast cancer victim post mastectomy - a cure which eventually becomes more painful than the disease.
Then there is a short film made by Samvida Nanda named 2B or not 2B which was given Award of Excellence at The Indie Fest this May. A man draws a double of himself into the animated world with a magic 2B pencil. But who is the double really? The one that is drawn? Or the one that drew him.

Next in line is the first film by Mumbai-based filmmaker Akram’s Bereft of colours which has travelled to international festivals like Spot Light, London, Marbella Film Festival, Spain and Panico Film Club. The story is about blind artist Rachel Faramount’s struggle against creative block after regaining her sight.

There is also a short film by Gaurav Bakshi named Re Incarnation - which is a short film on what if Mahatma Gandhi were reincarnated in today’s day and age.
